Straight from Cuba! This is a 4 month series of classes designed to deepen your understanding of Cuba, it's Music and it's dances! Join us and have a lot of fun dancing and meeting new friends! JANUARY 23rd: The Music Workshop $20 - 2 Hours This 2 hour workshop focuses on the instruments and styles of music from Cuba. We will breakdown the different tempos of Son, Rumba, Timba, Cubaton and yes, Reggaeton music. Bring your phones so you can save the music and artists that you enjoy listening to and find out where to go to search for more awesome music. Bringing a pen or tablet for notes is suggested. You will learn to identify the changes in the music and how to structure your dances to move with the song instead of repeating "dance moves". We will be listening to a lot of music, discussing the trends in Cuba and how to further your dancing skills by understanding each of the genres. This is a must attend class if you are unfamiliar with artists, songs, genres and the changes in music. FEBRUARY 27th: Son Workshop $20 - 2 Hours This 2 hour workshop focuses on the dance of Son. We will dance through the Son Clave (one of the most important beat in Cuban music) and listen to Son music as well as Timba songs that begin with a Son feel. We will work on transferring between Son and Casino and how that applies to the overall dance. To understand Son, is to understand part of the core of Cuban dancing and music. This class will begin with the music and the history of Son. We will learn footwork and patterns and finish with dancing through a song. You should feel confident in understanding the fundamentals of Son music and the dance by the time you leave. MARCH 26th: Rumba Workshop $20 - 2 Hours This 2 hour workshop focuses on the dance of Rumba. We will dance through the Rumba Clave (the other most important beat in Cuban music) and listen to Rumba music as well as Timba/Cubaton songs that begin with a Rumba feel. We will work on transferring between Rumba and Casino and how that applies to the overall dance. To understand Rumba, is to understand part of the core of Cuban dancing and music. This class will begin with the music and the history of Rumba and it's 3 subcategories. We will focus on Guaguanco partner work in the class. We will learn footwork and patterns and finish with dancing through a song. You should feel confident in understanding the fundamentals of Rumba music, the dance and how it is incorporated in Cuban music by the time you leave. APRIL 30th: Musicality: Putting it all together! $20 - 2 Hours Let's wrap up and play music that puts your entire Cuban dancing together. We will focus on the musical changes, melodies and tempo. By dancing to the music, we can feel a deeper connection with our dance partners. We will utilize the skills learned in the other 3 classes and put them all together, dancing through some dynamic Cuban music. More Info below.
