Benefitting the Educational Outreach Programs of Manassas Ballet Theatre.
Colin J. Wolfe, the son of Amy and Mark Wolfe, grew up dancing with the Manassas Ballet Theatre, performing each year through 2005. In June 2005, Colin enlisted with the Marine Corps, graduating in September 2005. Colin was deployed to Iraq in July, 2006. He was killed by a roadside bomb only seven weeks later on August 30, 2006. This year marks the tenth anniversary of his sacrifice.
Our Educational Outreach program is a partnership of MBT, Prince William County Schools, the Manassas City Public Schools, SPARK (the PWC Schools Education Foundation), and the Hylton Performing Arts Center. These professional ballet programs are staged exclusively for the students during school hours and are free of charge to the students. The selected classes first watch an introductory video, which explains about the Hylton Performing Arts Center, Manassas Ballet Theatre, the process of putting a ballet performance together, and how to be a properly behaved audience member. On the day of the performance, the children are transported to the Hylton where they watch a professional ballet production at a world class venue. At the end of every performance, there is a Q & A session when the students directly interact with the MBT performers and artistic staff. After returning to school, the teachers incorporate elements of the performance experience into the SOL curriculum. In this way, over 7,000 school children annually receive exposure to a professional arts event that otherwise few would experience.
